House in Order

July 27th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

There were 2 things missing in our new home. A comfortable sofa set & a shoe rack. After humungous research & analysis and countless visits to numerous furniture stores, we found something which fits our multiple conditions, last week. All of it got delivered on Wednesday. We also put up a few paintings, curios & our Firenze caricature. And now our drawing room really looks nice. Well one would think the shopping list is finally done. But no! Alas! The elusive side table still haunts us, but we shall resume the search after a brief break, which includes a holiday to Goa and some weekend parties.

Mumbai Skyline

Driving back home the other day, I turned on the Eastern Express Highway towards Powai, which is the normal route home, and I saw a wonderful skyline with a burst of orange all over. I pulled over & clicked a few snaps. Couldn’t resist clicking the snaps

Just trying out email posting which seems to be quite convenient to send across thoughts to the blog. Since email & Internet are the only things pervasive at work

So for all those taking the trouble of reading the blog, or for those who accidentaly stumbled in here and have some more free time on their hands, can stop by at my other blog which has this & that & blah blah blah.

Subscription Woes 2

Further to my Mint woes, to speeden things a bit, I wrote to the Editor of Mint

My email

Dear Editor,

At the outset, I must commend your entire team in serving up a crisp business paper which, with its uniqueness, has captured quite a readership since the launch. I myself have been quite satisfied with the content and some of your columnists are indeed good. I have also gone and suggested many a friend to subscribe to your paper.

But unfortunately, that’s where the biggest roadblock is. Subscription! If anyone wanting to avail of the Rs. 299/- offer, like me, tries to subscribe, it is actually impossible. I subscribed through the Internet about 3 weeks back and I am yet to receive even one email confirmation regarding the acceptance of my request, even though the entire transaction was completed successfully after debiting my credit card. Frantic calls to your subscription call centre on 67764242, results in nothing. After being kept on hold for a record 32 minutes, I was asked to send an email, to which there has been no response.

Your success lies in an increasing readership base, which is stifled due to the inability of being able to subscribe to your paper.

I sincerely hope you help customers like us to enable a smooth subscription service, the benefits of which are entirely yours.

Regards,

I got a response in 20 minutes flat

Mr Basrur
I am very sorry to hear about this. I have alerted several key people and someone should contact you today. If you don’t hear from anyone within 24 hours please email me directly. Again my apologies

Editor

2 hours later, 3 people call me, take my address and promise that my subscription booklet will be couriered today.

The wonders of email :)

Airport Woes

Went to Jaipur for a day yesterday. Was met with the longest queue I’ve ever seen at Terminal 1A. It took me nearly 30 mins after the checkin to get past the security gate.

An interesting thing happened. While I was in queue one of the security guys came & handed me a small scissor and asked me keep it in my pocket. He wanted to check if his guys were doing his job well. And guess what, the guard who frisked me missed the scissor. So I came out of the frisking area and handed the scissor to the supervisor and that was the start of a very lousy day for that guard. He got a verbal bashing like I’ve never heard before. All in all quite an event making the long wait to board the plane, a bit amusing. The flight was delayed by 40 mins only because passengers couldn’t board the plane due to the serpentine queues.

Its really getting quite frustrating to travel by these low cost airlines for business. Its a different thing if you are on a holiday. The return flight was on Jet, and it was a breeze traveling. Jet is such a well oiled machine, all it needs is good maintenance. Having said that, I spotted a no smoking sign, right next to an ashtray in the loo. The ashtray is bigger than the signage.
